This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth. 1 John 3:16-18 (NIV)
Dear friends, as we celebrate Valentine's Day today, may it be about true love and not just the romantic aspects of it. The true meaning of love is embodied in the act of selflessness shown by Jesus in John 3:16:
For God so loVed the world
That He gAve His
onLy
BegottEn
SoN
That whosoever
Believeth In Him
Should Not perish,
But have Everlasting life.
Jesus gave His life for us because of His unconditional love for us. We did not deserve His love but He gave it regardless. He intends for us to reciprocate this love to one another. If we say we love God who we have not seen, yet we hate one another and do not care for each other, how true are we to ourselves? How we relate to each other and reach out to the poor and needy is a reflection of our love to God. Brothers and sisters, let us love one another not just in words but by our actions. Actions speak louder than words! As you celebrate Valentine's Day today, may the true meaning of love be revealed to you by performing acts of kindness to those in need, those who are sick, those who are homeless, those who are orphans, and those who are destitute, etc..... True love is laying down our lives for one another by sacrificing the self and our luxuries for the less fortunate one.
May God grant us the ability to exhibit this true love in Jesus' name.
